It was a moment so bizarre and so vicious that it has undoubtedly been imprinted into the minds of all those unfortunate enough to have witnessed it with their own eyes.

When Michelle McCool had MsChif at her mercy and began beating her relentlessly with her own foot it was truly a gruesome sight to behold. With her disheveled hair and fiery eyes, Michelle was almost in a trance where she would stop at nothing to literally break MsChif in half if it meant ending the nightmare once and for all.

We were in that trance with her.

Just as she was unable to stop herself from attempting to cripple her opponent, we were unable to call out to Michelle to stop the madness. We were unable to look away in order to prevent ourselves from accruing mental damage at the sight of the physical damage Michelle was inflicting.

Similar to witnessing a car wreck, we were left helplessly watching, through squinted eyes or through the cracks in our fingers, the brutality that was unfolding.

It was the curiosity about how this would all come to an end that kept our eyes locked on the drama that was occuring. The same way we’re drawn, almost impulsively, to the sight of the twisted metal and broken bodies left in a crash, we stuck around because we wanted to see the resolution of this conflict.

Loose threads and cliff hangers are tough pills to swallow.

It was that inability to look away that has embedded the memory of the assault into our minds, almost permanently like tattoing skin or branding cattle. It has come to the point that every time we close our eyes we’ll recall the event with perfect clarity.

It’ll be a recollection that occurs whether we wish for it or hope against it. This isn’t something you can look past as merely another moment in XWL, and only with great difficulty and effort can it be compartmentalized or repressed.

While watching Michelle at work it was not uncommon to find mouths left agape or to hear gasps every single time foot stuck head. Astonishing feats of flexibility are not uncommon in this world, but to see it wielded as a weapon against another human being is something that would make all but the most desensitized person wince.

There are just certain things you don’t forget, things that make it difficult to live life today the same you did yesterday. They’re the kind of things that make a concept as simple as closing your eyes a difficult feat.

Every time we close our eyes we'll be haunted by the visions and the screams of a woman we thought was invincible.

The sound of flesh repeatedly slapping metal, as MsChif finally tapped out after enduring an excruciating hold that brought inhuman levels of pain, were as startling and sudden as gun shots. To see that MsChif had enough of the pain, to see that she was actually submitting, to see that Michelle McCool had actually found a way to trump her torturer was almost as surprising and unforeseen as the submission she was in.

After months of rampaging through XWL leaving broken minds and spirits as well as bodies in her wake, MsChif looked vulnerable. She is supposed to be the tormentor of souls, she is the huntress… the judge, the jury and the executioner and after sentencing so many to horrific fates MsChif came across an obstacle in her path of destruction that she couldn’t maneuver around.

It was an obstacle that went by the name of Michelle McCool.

Are we wrong for assuming that Michelle’s days were numbered? Are we wrong for forgetting everything that she has worked for in her career and assuming that she’d be no more than a victim? At great cost Michelle showed the world that she can hold her own and that she is willing to do whatever it takes to stand her ground in the face of adversity.

MsChif played the mind game to perfection; she viciously attacked Michelle McCool emotionally by reopening the old wound that is Evan Bourne. Michelle was caught off guard and was defenseless as she watched teary-eyed while a bloody and unconscious Bourne lay in MsChif’s lap. Bourne may have recovered from MsChif’s abuse but will he ever forgive Michelle for letting him get dragged into this war?

Will Michelle ever forgive herself?

She hired Sean Vincent and that was the spark the dry leaves of the rivalry needed to combust. Her title ambitions, her career and her life were all halted and painful sacrifices had to be made. Sacrifices that may not have been in vain because Michelle actually did it; she stood victorious when the dust settled but she didn’t appear quite happy with her victory.

Sometimes revenge isn’t as sweet as we’d like to imagine.

Michelle allowed a side of herself that she worked so long to bury rise up out of her grave. The mean streak, the Michelle McCool that had no regard for anyone but herself was brought back to the surface. She was willing to end MsChif’s career and she subjected the people to the backbreaking lengths she had to go in order to get the job done.

MsChif especially won’t forget how that night ended for her. She’s used to having the last scream and Michelle ripped that moment away from her. Michelle McCool defeated MsChif at her own game and showed her that not everybody can be toyed with. Michelle has returned from a nightmare that not many, if any, have been able to.

It was nightmare that brought pain to her she has never had to deal with before; it was a nightmare that exploited her fears and poisoned her hopes and made it feel like there was no point in going on. But it was the pain that made her stronger, it was the longing to hope again that pushed Michelle to persevere and break free of the shackles that kept her from escaping her bad dream.

For now she can call herself a survivor, but only time will tell if she won war or just a battle.

She, just like all of us, will have to wait with baited breath for MsChif’s response. Will she accept that she came up short on that one night after weeks of having things go her way and move on? It doesn’t seem likely, it doesn’t seem like MsChif, but none of us truly know what MsChif is like aside from the destructive, dangerous and deceiving persona that she has become in this company.

MsChif may very well return more bloodthirsty than ever, a tactic that could hurt her as much as it does Michelle who has already shown that she won’t be dragged into the depths of hell without one hell of a struggle.

MsChif’s cockiness in letting Michelle pick the match backfired on her and if she does come back for another round there is no questioning that she’ll have some more tricks up her sleeves. The green mist wouldn’t be the only thing Michelle would have to worry about.

Though after defeating MsChif she has nothing to prove and perhaps nothing to gain from stepping into the ring with her again. But MsChif isn’t someone who gracefully takes no for an answer, this could potentially be a fight to the death. Whether that is the death of their career or a literal death is up for the women to decide.

They’ve put their bodies through so much already that they couldn’t survive much longer if the violence were to escalate. What’s scary is that each woman is more concerned about inflicting damage and proving they’re right than maintaining their own physical wellbeing.

What more can MsChif do now but rip Michelle’s brain out of her head and tear it apart piece by piece? And what more can Michelle do but snap MsChif’s spine, maybe not just in half but in thirds and fourths? These are questions that we can only hope won’t be answered because we’ve been scarred enough after only one encounter and there’s only so much more we can sit and watch before we get sick to our stomachs.

Did Michelle take things too far? Did MsChif get what she deserved? It’s hard to say for sure; Michelle isn’t an angel nor is MsChif a demon. They’re both right and they’re both wrong. This isn’t a war that can be won with logic, this is a battle between two fires and the flame that burns the longest will be declared the victor.

But are bragging rights worth the sleepless nights?

Between Michelle’s arm and mind and MsChif’s knee and back, both warriors now have their share of battle scars that’ll either proudly display or hide in shame. Neither woman has been seen nor heard from since that fateful night; Michelle returned to the comfort of her home and MsChif to her dark sanctuary. They have left us to wonder what will happen next or if there will even be a next time. They have left us to deal with the ramifications and the fallout of their match. They have left us a memory of an encounter that won’t soon be forgotten.
