Introducing Paybacks AND New Ways To Win Empty
PostSubject: Introducing Paybacks AND New Ways To Win   Introducing Paybacks AND New Ways To Win EmptySat Oct 20, 2018 10:25 am

Hello everyone. In WWE 2K19 we've seen the introduction of the Payback System. This system was introduced as a way for someone to gain an advantage over an opponent within a match. With all those new stakes at play we felt that we should bring this into XWL in our own way. Thus the Payback System is now merged with the points and perks system.

Listed below are guidelines on how this will work. XWL is all about creating a fair and fun experience. So although some things may feel restricted please keep in mind we came to this conclusion to bring about the best possible experience. With that being said please take a look at the revamped XWL Perks and Payback's below.

General guidelines for Paybacks

  • The team has put a lot of time and thought into coming up with this new system, in an effort to make it the best possible while keeping it fair for everyone, so we ask that you do the same when selecting your choices. As there will be no refunds on the paybacks you choose.

  • Everyone will start with ZERO paybacks. You only gain access to paybacks when you purchase them or reach the requirements for the free ones. So until you do you MUST remove all paybacks your character has, whether you're using default or not.

  • You can only have one level 1 and level 2 active at a time. Example: If you have low blow and want to buy move thief you must give up low blow. And should you want low blow again you'll have to repurchase it.

  • Earn a reversal, earn a finisher, and resiliency are all
    BANNED

  • Move thief is also optional where every match you have to ask your opponent if they're okay with you using it. In the event they're not you can choose from any level two payback not banned. However you also have the option of earning a finisher which can only be used once per match.  Due to it's limited use we think it's an even trade off  by giving you use of something you normally wouldn't have access to in order to make up for spending points on something that not everyone will be okay with you using like move theft.

  • XWL is a league with it's foundation based on mutual respect and one that prides itself on giving it's members more optional ways of enjoying the league and the matches that take place. Therefore submission's can now be used to win a match. However, everyone who would like this option has to bring it forth in a discussion prior to the match taking place.

If all parties can't come to an agreement then submissions will thus, be illegal, and thus not allowed in the match. Alternatively anyone caught pressuring someone to allow submissions, or becoming upset because of members saying no, will be suspended from the privilege of having submissions be optional until they can proceed to treat others opinions in a respectful way.

  • When it comes to risk vs reward, three paybacks come to mind: Low Blow, Power of the Punch and Poison Mist. While these paybacks don't require a finisher to utilize, they do result in a disqualification loss should the referee see them being used. We, as admins, feel that this is a good balance to the paybacks in question and are allowing members to win NORMAL ONE ON ONE matches off of them should they decide to purchase them in the store.

Lastly, we would also like to take this time to remind you that XWL's next special, Roulette, will be taking place on November 19th, 2018 and there's some high stakes involved. As every matches stipulations, whether it be the match itself, or opponents, will have a legit wheel spin. We're reminding you now to give everybody time to arrange things with each other and figure out what choices you would like for your spins. Be sure to let any of the admins know.

In closing I know this is long, but, we've put a lot of effort into making sure all of this is as easy to understand as possible. Please, don't hesitate to contact one of us, or post your thoughts in here if you're confused about something, or, if you would like to suggest anything not already mentioned here and we wil be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Introducing Paybacks AND New Ways To Win Empty
PostSubject: Re: Introducing Paybacks AND New Ways To Win   Introducing Paybacks AND New Ways To Win EmptyFri Nov 02, 2018 3:51 pm

I finally got around to reading this in full after my bout of ill health and have played the game a little bit more since release.  Great job to the admins for setting this out nice and clearly.

I'm excited for the new year for the league.  The hype is real.

However I would like to raise some things:

1) Possum and Auto Reverse are essentially a free reversal so why are these allowed and Earn A Reversal is banned?  When it boils down to it they do the same thing, the only difference is that Possum is from a grounded position only.

2) With allowing victories from Low Blow, Poison Mist and Power Of The Punch, what are the admins' stance on if someone reverses one of these paybacks around 3 or 4 times in a row (as they're unlimited use within the time period after activation) then is hit with a finisher right away for the victory having used up all their reversals avoiding the payback?

3) Is it not way more beneficial to be a heel in XWL right now if you can win using these "dirty" paybacks?  The faces don't have any new additional win conditions.  This could open up an imbalance in the league between heels and faces could it not?

4) Purchasing paybacks then needing to ask if your opponent is ok with you using them defeats the point of buying them doesn't it?  What if they say no every time?... you've wasted your points.

5) Are there any plans to bring the women's overalls in line with the men's?  It's strange how there's still this 5 point difference.

6) I don't think anyone will agree with submission victories as they're still an auto-win.  Why is this now a thing compared to previous years (especially since resiliency has been banned which could have been used to escape any submissions)?

I'm a big fan of the paybacks and I'm saddened to see some banned but I understand why they are, I think, but I'd like to know the answer to the six things above if that's okay.

Thanks.

Edit: Also, can you guys maybe start putting some of this stuff into the Rules section?  It took me a while to find this thread and I've had this problem before with several threads announcing changes etc.

Edit 2: Sorry added a few more things!

1) Possum and Auto Reverse are essentially a free reversal so why are these allowed and Earn A Reversal is banned? When it boils down to it they do the same thing, the only difference is that Possum is from a grounded position only.

Answer From The Admins:

They're a free reversal like the banned earn a reversal yes...but

1.  Possum doesn't reverse a finisher, and give you that finisher.

2.  Auto Reverse is only for non sig/fins which won't give you a finisher.

Earn a reversal contrary to the 2 we allow lets you get a reversal that is "free" to be used on anything, which includes finishers, which in turn will get you potentially a finisher and that's really the difference we saw and why 2 were allowed but the third was not.

AJ: On the other side of the coin, should you reverse their payback attempt, it puts you in control and they in turn have to also invest a reversal to reverse your move or strike. If they successfully reverse whatever you had in mind, it gives them a second opportunity to attempt their payback and once again risk disqualification if the referee is still on his feet. This is a non-factor in multiperson matches seeing as you are only allowed to win off of them in normal singles matches, which as stated prior, will cause a disqualification loss if the referee isn't downed. This is why we feel this is a good balance to the paybacks in question, risk vs reward if you will.

3) Is it not way more beneficial to be a heel in XWL right now if you can win using these "dirty" paybacks? The faces don't have any new additional win conditions. This could open up an imbalance in the league between heels and faces could it not?

AJ: The win condition for the faces, as unoptimized as it is, is the disqualification victory should the referee see the payback being used.

David: It's really a small or even non factor for most when picking characters. People generally pick people to play/promo as because they have a certain image they want to be, someone wants to be a heel they'll be a heel, heel paybacks don't really to us anyways seem like that big of an imbalance to make everyone suddenly wanna be heels.

Austin:   Yes, the low blow and such do favor heels, but you don’t need to be a heel to buy them.

David:  Like Sydal who thanks to a certain fellow named Kyle gave me quite a POWERFUL PUNCH.

4) Purchasing paybacks then needing to ask if your opponent is ok with you using them defeats the point of buying them doesn't it? What if they say no every time?... you've wasted your points.

David: The point of buying them is to have access to it as an OPTION not everyone will say no every time. This is our attempt at giving the best of both worlds to everyone involved. Because instead of banning it, it's optional upon your opponents agreements. Instead of forcing your opponent to deal with something they may not wanna deal with, they get to say no I don't like that so no it's not gonna be used in our match. Which is why you're allowed a free change during those matches to one of the other similar level paybacks, which includes earn a finisher since it's only once per match and if they won't let you steal their finisher then you get a finisher. We don't like the idea of free finishers, but compared to the earn a reversal this is a once per match deal so it evens out, and gives y'all something extra for paying for something not everyone will want to deal with.

You're paying for the option really, the alternative as stated would have been banning everything we wanted optional, so instead of doing that since we've tried to bring about more focus on trusting you members by letting you collectively decide things like if pins can be stolen in multiperson matches...we went that route.

5) Are there any plans to bring the women's overalls in line with the men's? It's strange how there's still this 5 point difference.

AJ: Their overalls will be raised when they're allowed to wrestle in Saudi Arabia.

David: I think when we first introduced the points system the in game overalls were men higher women slightly lower so that's why they were different so effective immediately they will be the same. Women and Men both will start at 80, anyone that's an 80 atm can boost themselves to an 85, anyone that's an 85 can boost to 90 and if anyone is a 90 they can boost to 95 like the Men's overalls were. It was mainly an oversight that went unnoticed due to trying to configure this payback system. So good catch!

6) I don't think anyone will agree with submission victories as they're still an auto-win. Why is this now a thing compared to previous years (especially since resiliency has been banned which could have been used to escape any submissions)?

AJ: A different win condition for matches, should every party involved in that specific match unanimously agree to it. Personally, I don't like submission finishers but there are people whose characters are built upon them in real life and to allow them to do that in their matches brings another dimension to their ability to successfully win a match. This is for the people that like the current submission system or are good at it, giving them another layer of the match to enjoy. As stated, this rule will only be active in matches where everybody agrees to it, everybody being the keyword. If someone doesn't want submission as a win condition, then it simply will not be.

Edit: Also, can you guys maybe start putting some of this stuff into the Rules section? It took me a while to find this thread and I've had this problem before with several threads announcing changes etc.

AJ: No

David: We'll definitely add it to the list to improve in the future, we appreciate all of your feedback and we hope our answers have been helpful to you, and you understand why things are how we've arranged them to be. If you have any more ideas, or if any member reading this does, or suggestions please post so and we promise we'll get to it ASAP. Sorry this took so long to get out.
